The honest version

Migrating WordPress is the kind of thing that should be boring.

It usually isn't, because most migrations involve someone learning as they go. We've done hundreds. Here's what to expect: a pre-flight audit, a tested staged copy, a planned cut-over with rollback, and verified DNS propagation.

How we do it

Eight steps from old host to new home.

This is the playbook. Every site is slightly different, but the structure is the same โ€” and the order matters. Most steps you don't have to do anything for.

01
Discovery & access
You give us read access to your current host (or hand us the credentials in a secure vault). We catalogue what's installed: plugins, themes, custom code, integrations, mail config.
02
Pre-flight audit
We snapshot the live site, run a full backup, document the DNS state, and identify anything risky (broken plugins, deprecated PHP, large media library) that needs a plan.
03
Stage on new host
We build the site on the new server using a temp domain, configure PHP/Nginx/caching properly, and import database + files. Crucially: we don't touch your live site at this stage.
04
Test thoroughly
Visual regression checks against the live site. Forms, checkout, members, integrations all tested end-to-end. Any issue gets fixed on staging before we go anywhere near DNS.
05
Sign-off
You review the staging site at a private URL we send you. We address any feedback. Nothing happens until you're happy.
06
Cut-over plan
We agree a quiet window for the cut-over, lower DNS TTLs 24 hours ahead, and prepare a rollback plan. Most sites cut over outside business hours just to be safe.
07
DNS switch
DNS updated, propagation watched in real time, final database delta synced so no orders or comments are lost. We monitor continuously through the change.
08
Post-flight check
Once DNS is live everywhere, we re-test the full site, confirm SSL is valid, check email delivery, and watch error logs for 48 hours. Old host stays parked for 14 days as backup.
What's included

Every migration ships with nine things included.

Not ร  la carte. Not available as add-ons. These are part of every migration we do.

01
Full pre-flight backup
Encrypted, off-site backup of files + database before we touch anything. Kept for 30 days post-migration.
02
PHP & MySQL version check
We flag any version issues and compatibility risks during the pre-flight audit. If upgrades are needed, we'll recommend the right approach โ€” these are handled as part of an ongoing care plan.
03
Server-level caching setup
Page cache, OPcache, Redis object cache โ€” all configured properly for WordPress at the server level.
04
SSL re-issue & forced HTTPS
New SSL certificate, HTTPS redirects on every URL, mixed-content scan and fix.
05
Email & SMTP verification
WordPress mail tested through every form. SPF/DKIM/DMARC checked. We don't sign off until email works.
06
301 redirect map
Any URL changes get proper 301 redirects so SEO equity transfers. We submit an updated sitemap to Google.
07
Search & replace database
Hard-coded URLs in the database found and rewritten cleanly using WP-CLI, not blunt SQL.
08
Visual regression check
Automated pixel-level diff between old and new site catches anything we'd otherwise miss.
09
14 days post-migration support
Old host parked, error logs monitored, any post-migration issues handled at no extra cost.
Pricing

Two ways to do this.

Either we migrate you as a one-off, or we waive the migration fee entirely when you bundle managed hosting with a care plan โ€” and you save ยฃ10/mo on hosting too.

Common questions

Things people ask before letting us touch their site.

No โ€” that's the whole point of the staged approach. Your live site keeps running on the old host while we build and test the new one. The cut-over itself takes minutes, and we time it for low-traffic periods. In eight years, no client has experienced visible downtime during a managed migration.
No. We do a final database delta sync at the moment of cut-over, capturing anything that came in during the migration. WooCommerce stores get extra care here โ€” we coordinate with you on a quiet window and verify zero order loss.
Yes. URLs stay identical wherever possible. Where they have to change, we set up 301 redirects and submit updated sitemaps to Google. Most sites see no organic traffic disruption โ€” and several see improvements thanks to better Core Web Vitals on the new server.
You get 14 days of post-migration support included. If we caused something, we fix it free. We also keep your old host's snapshot for 30 days, so a rollback is always available if needed.
Yes โ€” we migrate WooCommerce stores regularly. They're more involved than a standard site and we quote them accordingly, from ยฃ349 depending on size and complexity. WooCommerce sites are fully supported on all care plans.
We can handle a multisite migration as a one-off project, but we don't currently offer ongoing care plans for multisite setups. If you're looking for long-term maintenance after the migration, we'd recommend splitting your network into individual sites โ€” we're happy to advise on that.
Yes. We have no problem migrating you to a different host if that's what you've chosen. The standalone ยฃ349 fee covers any modern WordPress-friendly host. We'll tell you honestly if your chosen host is going to cause problems.
We use a secure password vault (1Password or Bitwarden) for credentials. You can also set up a temporary user for us. We document everything we change and revoke access at the end of the migration.
Any existing issues would need to be resolved before we migrate โ€” we can't move a compromised or broken site as-is. That remediation work is charged at our standard development rate (ยฃ85/hr +VAT) or our emergency rate (ยฃ125/hr +VAT) if it's urgent. Once it's stable and clean, we migrate it as normal.
